ATLANTA, Ga. – The pilot of a small plane that crashed in Atlanta earlier this month was apparently struggling to gain altitude just before the craft went down in the middle of a busy interstate.
A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board said Greg Byrd radioed air traffic controllers to report “I’m having some problem climbing here” and that “we’re going down here at the intersection.” The transmissions came about two minutes after Byrd departed from DeKalb Peachtree Airport on May 8. His craft went down seconds later.
Byrd, has sons Philip and Christopher and Jackie Kulzer were killed on impact. The four were traveling to Oxford, Miss for a graduation at Ole Miss.
