Burglary and Kidnapping in Oxford

OXFORD, Miss.- Police tackled a man who is now being charged with burglary and kidnapping early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the corner of North Lamar and Jefferson street after an individual saw a woman who they believed to be in danger. When officers arrived the lady ran to them and behind her was 37 year old Robert Fortner.

Fortner began throwing things at the officers at which point they tackled him to the group and arrested him.

The woman explained to investigators that she heard something in her backyard around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning. When she went to check, Fornter had forced his way into her home. The woman was able to run away but Fornter chased her and told her he needed money and that she was going to go somewhere with him to get it.

After Fortner was arrested police began to question him and he told them he had no recollection of the incident and actually thought he was in Tupelo. Police believe drugs and alcohol played a part in the incident.

Fortner is out on a 50,000 bond.
