As tech jobs become more prevalent across the globe, it’s important to keep up with the growing demand for superior workforce training.
Mississippi needs to catch up. But even a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
That’ll be the discussion April 11 at the Silicon South Summit: a collaboration of Mississippi’s universities, community colleges, and policy makers from Mississippi, as well as policy advisers on a national level, such as Ruthe Farmer, the former Senior Policy Advisor for Tech Inclusion at the White House. Farmer will join a panel that will explore the options of introducing more computer science and coding classes into Mississippi’s k-12 education.
Also in attendance will be the Mississippi Alliance for Women in Computing, who strive to grow existing programs and develop new programs across Mississippi in order to generate interest and participation of women in computing, improve recruitment and retention rates of women in undergraduate computing majors, and help post-secondary women make a transition to the computing workforce.

The summit will be held at Mississippi Public Broadcasting, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS tomorrow starting at 8am.
