UPDATE: Flipped vehicle leaves two dead, identities confirmed

RANKIN COUNTY- On Monday night the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident around 8:30 p.m. on Shell Oil Road. 

The Coroner has confirmed that 33-year-old Matthew Hooksa nd 57-year-old James Burnham were killed in the crash.

When deputies arrived they found a Chevy SUV that appeared to have run off the road and flipped onto its side and hit several trees. The accident caused major damage to the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle deputies found a man driving, and another man in the passenger seat. Both were pronounced dead on the scene.

Rankin County Coroner David Ruth responded to the scene and recovered both bodies. The accident is currently under investigation.
