SHERMAN, Miss.- A bizzare incident in a small town of less than 700 people that still manages to straddle three different counties. Sherman, Mississippi is found stretching across, Pontotoc, Lee, and Union counties.
WTVA is reporting that Friday evening, around 7:15 p.m., lightning struck a tree that caused a nearby gas line to rupture. It happened on Highway 178 near the Dollar General.
Sherman Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, and even with the help of Pontotoc utility crews, it still took them over an hour to put the fire out.
There were no injuries, and no houses had to be vacated.
