Man Shot While Turkey Hunting

BLYTHE, Miss.- A man was taken to a Memphis hospital on Thursday after he was shot in a turkey hunting accident in Union County. Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards told WTVA that Olive Branch resident Ricky Long accidentally shot Byhalia resident Jeffrey Johnson with a shotgun at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning near County Road 10 in the Blythe Community.

According to investigators, Johnson was hit by shotgun pellets near his left eye, in his collar bone, left arm, and one of his legs.

He was then taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo but was later transported to Regional Medical Center in Memphis for surgery.

Johnson’s condition in unknown at this point.
