Residents of Mississippi’s capital city are being asked to conserve water after power went out at one of the main water treatment plants.

JXN Water issued a release early Friday morning, informing customers that Thursday night’s severe weather knocked out power at the O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant in Ridgeland. By 7 a.m., power had been restored at O.B. Curtis, but operations had not yet returned to normal.

“It will take many hours for the system to recover, and some places may take longer,” JXN Water interim third-party manager Ted Henifin said.

In response to the outage, Henifin has issued a systemwide boil water advisory that will be in effect for the surface water system until lifted. Customers who are supplied from the well system – about 6,000 connections – are not affected.

Low water pressure can be expected in the meantime.
