Mississippians from all over the state are taking place in Mondays 121st running of the Boston Marathon. According to the Boston Marathon entry list at least 31 participants started the race that meanders through the greater Boston area.

The group of runners is an eclectic group with not one Mississippi town providing the vast majority of participants. Small towns like Petal, Brandon, Corinth, Guntown, Newton and Kiln are all represented.The city with most participants is Oxford with three.

Kenneth Williams is the oldest runner from Mississippi at the age of 75. Williams is from Corinth. The youngest is 24-year-old Kayleigh Skinner of Jackson.

Temperatures for the race are expected to be warm and sunny with highs in the lower 70s – a tad warm for runners participating, but perfect for spectators. The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon having started in 1897. To compete in the event runners have to qualify.
