Raymond Man Sentenced to Five Years for Child Pornography

JACKSON, Miss.- A Raymond man will spend the next five years behind bars for having child pornography on his computer.

Thomas Andrew Opiela, 52, pleaded guilty to two counts of child exploitation in Hinds County Court Wednesday.

“We caught this defendant downloading videos and pictures of child pornography from the internet and then placing them on a file sharing network,” said Attorney General Hood.

Judge William Gowan sentenced Opiela to ten years, with five suspended, five to serve. He was also ordered to serve five years post release supervision, pay $1,000 to the crime victim compensation fund and he must register as a sex offender upon release.

Attorney General Hood said, “We are glad to have stopped him, and appreciate Judge Gowan for making sure he goes to prison.”
