Restaurant Owner Charged with Stealing Over $100,000 Worth of Food from Youth Program at Camp Shelby

CAMP SHELBY, Miss. – More than $100,000 worth of food belonging to the National Guard’s Youth program is believed to have been stolen. Investigators say they found a lot of the food at at Jerry Howard’s house and restaurant, Jerry’s Seasoned Food when he was arrested Saturday in Hattiesburg, charged with grand larceny.

Thursday, State Auditor Stacy Pickering said the case came in to question when a lot of food that was ordered at Camp Shelby never appeared on the menu. Also, the coast of food had gone up, when the number of people eating had not changed.

Howard worked for the program for 17 years and investigators are not sure how long the suspected theft had been going on.
