UPDATE: Search Over for Running Inmate

GREEN COUNTY, Miss. – The South Mississippi Correctional Center inmate who escaped Thursday while working outside the prison has been captured.

Investigators said Dexter Patrick, 46, stole a county garbage truck from a  driver, but eventually abandoned it.  He was last seen on foot near Battles Road in Wayne County, headed toward Highway 45.

Patrick is a black male, 5’9”, about 200 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.  He was dressed in his prison clothing, green and white striped pants and a white t-shirt, when he got away.

Patrick is serving a 52 year sentence for armed robbery and vehicle theft from Hinds, Copiah, Rankin and Madison Counties.
