Union County Jail Escapee Captured; Family Arrested for Helping Him

NEW ALBANY, Miss.- He got out for a little over 24 hours. 28-year-old Union County jail runaway Michael Wayne Shafer was captured just after midnight Friday morning on Ebenezer road in Louisville.

He had escaped just after midnight the night before. He was arrested last week on drug charges in Winston County before he was returned to Union County. So once again, they’ll be bring him back to Union County on Friday.

Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards told WTVA-TV that Shafer was trying to hide out at his mother’s house when he was captured by Winston County deputies. While names have not yet been released, Shafer’s girlfriend, brother, and sister were all taken into custody for “aiding and abetting.”
