Escaped Inmate’s Dream of Freedom Over

STATE LINE, Miss. — An inmate is back in jail today after a State Line resident found him asleep in his boat Friday morning and held him until police arrived.

Dexter Patrick, 46, is serving a 52 year sentence at the South Mississippi Correctional facility for armed robbery and theft.  Guards said he stole a garbage truck and escaped around noon Thursday while working off prison grounds.  Patrick eventually crashed the truck near the Green-Wayne County line and on foot, fled into a wooded area.  While he was in his prison green striped uniform when he took off, police said Patrick broke into a nearby camp and changed into different clothing.
