The Red Cross is postponing its national Sound The Alarm events due to the urgent needs of those impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

This is a press release

Sound the Alarm, scheduled for September 23 through October 15, is a series of home fire safety planning and smoke alarm installation events  in more than 100-high-risk communities.   Mississippi’s high risk community was Jackson.

The following Mississippi Region Sound the Alarm events scheduled in Jackson are postponed:

  • Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017: Virden Addition
  • Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017:  Grove Park
  • Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017: Delhaven

New events will likely be scheduled in Spring 2018.

This postponement will not affect the ongoing Red Cross statewide program to install free smoke alarms.   People can call their local Red Cross office to request installations.
