Man who allegedly stuffed dead roommate into Freezer denied bond

The man accused of killing his roommate and stuffing his body into a freezer has been denied bond in Jackson County Court.

Judge T. Larry Wilson read the charges against 40-year-old Thomas Elliot Stafford, Monday.

Stafford is accused of strangling to death 65-year-old Jerry Floyd Kirkendall Sr. in their Latimer home in March.

Kirkendall’s body wasn’t discovered until the owner of the property went out to check the home. After discovering the body, the homeowner alerted authorities.

Stafford was on the run for several days before being arrested in Portland, Oregon. The suspected killer had lived there in the past and was wanted for a previous probation violation.

Before arriving in Portland, Stafford sold Kirkendall’s Cadillac to an Alabama relative in exchange for cash and a gun. That money was later used to pay for Stafford’s bus ticket to Portland.

Stafford has been charged with Capital Murder. He will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on June 12.
