Man Wanted for Writing Counterfeit Checks Leaves Drivers License at Scene

TAYLORSVILLE, Miss.- When you’re wanted in more than one state, it’s best to cover your tracks and not leave abruptly the moment you see a police officer. The Taylorsville Police Department is asking for your help in locating two men that have been passing counterfeit payroll checks at different grocery stores in Taylorsville, Magee, and across Jones County.

Courtney Maurice Russell is from Laurel. The other is using the name Joe Mac Williams III on his payroll checks, with a drivers license from Alabama that appears to be fake.

The counterfeit checks appear to be from Sanderson Farms, Georgia Pacific, and Tyson Foods.

Russell was attempting to cash a counterfeit check when a Taylorsville police officer walked in the store on a call that was unrelated. Just seeing the police officer apparently scared the suspect and he left the store, leaving behind his drivers license of Courtney Maurice Russell, 848 N 7th Ave Laurel, MS.

Police told WLBT-TV that he no longer lives at that address, and his checks used the address Collins, Laurel, and Prentiss. Russell apparently has an extensive criminal history in Michigan and a full Extradition felony warrant from Georgia for aggravated assault and child abuse.

If you have any information please contact Taylorsville Police at 601-785-6622 or Magee Police 601-849-2366.
