Operation Christmas Child Goes From Mississippi to the World

JACKSON, Miss– As the Black Friday ads come out, Operation Christmas Child is crossing items off the list for kids in over 130 countries. Operation Christmas Child, a division of Samaritan’s Purse, packs shoe boxes and snap-lid tubs for kids around the world every year, but they couldn’t do it without donations. Many churches take to filling shoe boxes collectively each year, knowing their gift will reach a child somewhere in the world.

“We actually send the boxes to over 130 countries,” says Shellie Wishard, Southeast Regional Director for Operation Christmas Child.

Many of the places that serve as pick up locations for Operation Christmas Child provide boxes, but they’ll ship the shoe box you’ve been stashing in your closet for the past few months.

“School supplies, stuffed animals, hygiene items, anything but liquid and food items,” says Wishard about what to send.

But if you’re not sure what to get, OCC takes the guess work out of it.

“You can go to our website and build a box there, and it has all the approved items listed,” Wishard says.

To find your nearest drop-off center or to build a box, head to the Operation Christmas Child website.
