Two drivers died as the result of an 18-wheeler crash in Copiah.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol stated that an empty log truck was traveling eastbound on MS 28 when it collided with a gravel hauler that was traveling westbound on Tuesday morning.

The driver of the log truck, 50-year-old Charles Ray Halford, died at the scene. The driver of the gravel hauler, 49-year-old James E. Millender was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he would later pass away.

According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the crash occurred between Bethesda Road and East Whitworth Street just outside of Hazelhurst. One of the trucks flipped as a result of the crash and traffic was blocked in both directions until the wreck was cleared.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
