Sheriff Byrd, Still Free After Bond Violation Hearing

PASCAGOULA, Miss. – Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd will not be going back to jail anytime soon. A judge ruled in his favor after a court hearing Monday. Byrd was charged with a 31 count indictment back in August. District Attorney Tony Lawrence was trying to get Byrd’s bond revoked claiming Byrd was intimidating people who testified against him to a grand jury.

Byrd’s attorney said Byrd was helping gather information for his own defense. Also, none of witnesses said they were intimidated so the judge said there was not enough evidence to revoke his bond.
