An 18-year-old is dead after being shot at a Mississippi state park.
Law enforcement confirmed to WAPT that the shooting took place Sunday evening at Roosevelt State Park. The county coroner, Mike Lee, identified the victim as Jetavion Johnson.
Officers with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks told the Jackson-based TV station that they responded to an altercation at the Alfredo Harris Lodge inside the park. Upon arriving to what was confirmed to be a gender reveal party among family members, they discovered Johnson suffering from gunshot wounds near the pool area of the lodge.
Johnson, who lived in the Newton area, was transported to Scott Regional Hospital in Morton. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
As of now, no arrests have been announced. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.
