Two arrests have been made in the death of a West Lowndes High School student.
Jaquarious Brooks and Landyn Brooks, both 18, are behind bars in connection with the killing of 18-year-old Jaraquist Cunningham. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Cunningham died at a basketball court in Artesia on Oct. 14.
Jaquarious Brooks was arrested a day after the alleged homicide and is charged with murder. His mother reportedly contacted the sheriff’s office and requested to turn her son over to law enforcement. Landyn Brooks was handcuffed on Oct. 16 and is charged with accessory after the fact. Landyn is accused of helping Jaquarious destroy evidence after Cunningham was killed.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of one of our own. Jaraquist was more than just a student; he was a valued member of the West Lowndes High School family,” a release from the school reads.
“His smile, his presence, and his spirit made a difference in the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed by his classmates, teachers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
The investigation into Cunningham’s death is ongoing.
