A mass shooting in Centreville early Saturday morning left two people dead and seven others wounded, according to the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting happened near the Orchard Café on Highway 24 at approximately 12:55 a.m. After Fields Health System notified Wilkinson County E-911 Dispatch that multiple gunshot victims had arrived at the hospital’s emergency room, deputies with the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Centreville Police Department.
Law enforcement determined that nine people suffering from gunshot wounds had been transported to the hospital by private vehicles.
According to investigators, two adult Black males died from their injuries. Their identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Three additional victims were transferred to an out-of-area trauma center for further treatment, while four others were treated and later released from the hospital.
Officers with the Centreville Police Department, the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office, and assisting agencies processed the crime scene and conducted interviews while pursuing investigative leads. Officials described the investigation as active and ongoing, with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation being called to assist.
