2023 Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards for Mississippi announced

The Mississippi High School Activities Association has announced the recipients of the 2023 Mr. and Miss Basketball award for each of the state’s six classifications.

Class 1A
  • Michael James – Guard, H.W. Byers, Senior (20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists per game)
  • Maci Phifer – Guard, Ingomar, Sophomore (17 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1.3 assists per game)
Class 2A
  • Devin Jones – Forward, Velma Jackson, Senior (20.6 points, 9.5 rebounds,
  • Madi Kate Vuncannon – Guard, Walnut, Senior (24 points, 4 assists, 8 rebounds and 4 steals per game)
Class 3A
  • Demondre Graham – Forward, Southeast Lauderdale, Senior ( 22 points, 4.4 assists, and 5 rebounds per game)
  • Sa’niyah Cook – Forward, Booneville, Sophomore (18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game)
Class 4A
  • Eric Paymon – Center, Raymond, Senior (21 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2 blocks per game)
  • Jacilyn Houston – Guard, Louisville, Senior (16 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals per game)
Class 5A
  • Malik Franklin – Guard, Vicksburg, Senior (15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game)
  • Layla Carter – Guard, Vicksburg, Senior (22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks per game)
Class 6A
  • Makhi Myles – Forward, Starkville, Senior (19.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.1 blocks, 2.8 assists, and 2.5 steals)
  • Madison Booker – Forward, Germantown, Senior (18.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game)

All Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball winners will be recognized during the 2023 MHSAA State Championships in the Mississippi Coliseum from March 2-4.
