The state of Mississippi has secured $3 million in funding for major infrastructure repairs at Neshoba County Lake.
Officials with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks announced Thursday that the funding had been acquired for the upgrades. Neshoba County Lake is a popular, 138-acre state fishing destination located in Philadelphia.
The funding for the repairs, per state officials, was obtained through a strategic partnership between the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund and the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
“MDWFP extends its sincere appreciation to Representative C. Scott Bounds and Senator Lane Taylor for their dedicated efforts and steadfast commitment in securing the essential state and federal financial resources needed to carry out this conservation project,” a release from the department reads.
Both Bounds and Taylor are Republicans who represent Neshoba County.
Engineering and pre-construction planning on the dam and spillway renovation and repair are currently underway, with official construction scheduled to begin in early 2027. The project is expected to take approximately one year to complete.
The fishing lake is temporarily closed during this period, but surrounding recreational amenities remain open.
