It didn’t take long for law enforcement to capture three teenagers who escaped from the Jones County Youth Detention Facility in Ellisville on Monday.
The jailbreak happened around noon when Lt. Lance Williams of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department saw the trio running from the detention facility while on his lunch break, according to reporting by WHLT-TV. The juveniles, each age 16, were still in jail coveralls when spotted on Highway 11.
Backup quickly responded and set up a perimeter around the detention facility that expanded to Interstate 59. Williams captured two of the three teens within 10 minutes of their escape before the third was found hiding in a maintenance shed behind the Jones County School District Office soon thereafter.
An investigation into how the teenagers escaped revealed they squeezed through a small gap between a chain-locked gate and a fence in the facility’s outdoor recreation area.
All three are now facing additional charges. Their identities were not released.
