Five people are injured and one is dead after a shooting at a local festival in Jefferson County on Saturday night.
According to a social media post by Sheriff James Bailey, Sr., some of the victims are in critical condition. He is asking for the public’s help in locating the shooter.
“To the citizens of Jefferson County and surrounding areas due to the terrible events that occurred during Fayette Fest, we are requesting for your assistance,” the sheriff wrote, adding that tipsters can remain anonymous. “We don’t want your name. We just want your information. Please keep all victims and their families in your prayers.”
Bailey said any tips can be directed to the Fayette Police Department at (601) 786-3333, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department at (601) 786-3403, or Mississippi Crime Stoppers at (888) 442-5001. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation, as well.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for any tips that lead to an arrest.
The Fayette Fest is an annual event celebrating the southwest Mississippi city and its history through art, music, and food vendors.
