Greene County star wide receiver Jase Mathews will miss the remainder of his final high school football season due to a torn ACL.
Mathews, who is currently committed to play for Auburn under Hugh Freeze’s tutelage, is a five-star prospect and the No. 1 wideout in the 2026 class, per Rivals. He is also one of the top prep players in the Magnolia State.
Through three games this season, Mathews logged 176 yards and two touchdowns. He captured the attention of collegiate recruiters nationally during his junior year when he hauled in 68 passes for 1,138 receiving yards and 15 receiving touchdowns in 10 games.
While Mathews has high eyes set on Auburn for the time being, he has not shut down his recruiting process, and plenty of time exists for another suitor to sweep the Wildcat standout off his feet. Ole Miss, LSU, and Texas A&M remain in the hunt for the coveted offensive weapon.
Mathews is not the only high-ranking Mississippi player committed to the Tigers. Five-star Hartfield safety Bralan Womack also recently announced his intentions to play for Freeze, who landed five-star George County quarterback Deuce Knight in the previous recruiting cycle.
But for now, Mathews’ high school career has come to an end, and he will focus on rehabbing his injured knee as he simultaneously mulls a decision on where he will take his talents at the next level.
