Former Oxford officer to plead guilty on 2019 murder charges

The former Oxford police officer charged with the murder of a mother of four will plead guilty in a Union County Court on Friday.

Lafayette County Circuit Clerk Jeff Busby confirmed a report that Matthew Kinne intends to plead guilty to the 2019 murder of 32-year-old Dominique Clayton in an agreement that carries a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Clayton was murdered in her sleep inside of her Suncrest Drive home on May 19, 2019, and was found by one of her children. Authorities arrested Kinne two days later and it was revealed that the former officer and Clayton were romantically involved at the time of the murder—Kinne was also married.

The plea will take place in Union County, where Kinne is being held, on Friday at 1:30 p.m. He was initially being held in Panola County before a photo emerged of him eating outside of his cell with no supervision.

Kinne was terminated from the Oxford Police Department after his arrest, and two other officers resigned throughout the course of the investigation.
