A Tupelo man is behind bars after killing his mother with a shovel.
On Tuesday, authorities responded to a welfare concern in the Villages subdivision off Coley Road. When officers arrived at the scene, they spoke with an individual at the site before discovering a deceased woman. After investigating, law enforcement officials handcuffed 30-year-old Joshua Lazore, who is said to have admitted to the crime.

The suspect is charged with one count of first-degree murder. The unidentified victim was confirmed to be his mother, 62-year-old Sherri Lazore, whom he had allegedly beaten with a shovel.
Lazore was denied bond. A Lee County grand jury will be presented with this case.
