State authorities are investigating the death of a detainee in DeSoto County.
Officials said that a 37-year-old female housed in a holding cell at the county’s adult detention facility suffered a critical medical emergency on Friday. A report from the local sheriff’s department claims that the facility’s staff responded promptly and initiated successful life-saving measures.

Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene to transport the unidentified detainee to the nearest hospital. The woman is reported to have passed away after arriving at the unspecified medical facility.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has been notified of the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and is conducting an independent assessment into the incident. The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office reported that it is fully cooperating with the investigation and is “committed to maintaining transparency” throughout the process.
