The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is receiving more than $6 million to carry out affordable housing activities.
On Friday, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced $52 million in Indian Housing Block Grant funding for eligible Native American Tribes and Tribally Designated Housing Entities in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

In Mississippi, $6,047,767 has been granted to the Neshoba County-headquartered Band of Choctaw Indians to undergo housing development, operation, and modernization of existing housing, housing services to eligible families and individuals, crime prevention and safety, and model activities.
“From day one, HUD has been engaged in alleviating affordable housing challenges facing urban, rural, and Tribal communities. Today’s announcement reaffirms our commitment to serve Tribal communities while working towards meeting Indian Country’s housing needs,” HUD Secretary Scott Turner said.
“HUD has a strong partnership with Tribal nations across the Southeast, and I look forward to collaborating directly with Tribal leaders in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina to expand housing opportunities and remove burdensome regulatory barriers that impede progress.”
