Southern Miss leaps to No. 12 in D1Baseball rankings, Ole Miss reenters top 25

The final week of the college baseball regular season was a successful one for Southern Miss and Ole Miss. Both were rewarded with strong advances in the latest top 25 poll from D1Baseball.

The now-No. 12 Golden Eagles achieved their highest ranking of 2025 after a series sweep over then No. 22 Troy, while the Rebels jumped to No. 17 after spending a week outside of the top 25.

Southern Miss (41-13, 24-6 Sun Belt) officially stretched the program’s 40-win season streak to nine – the longest string in Division I baseball. They did so by way of a rousing road effort to sweep SBC foe Troy. Before the series, the Trojans were the only team remaining in the nation who had not lost a weekend series.

Ole Miss made another argument to bring a regional to Oxford with a series win over No. 6 Auburn. The Rebels flexed their offensive muscle all weekend, plating 32 total runs across the trio of games. Mike Bianco’s crew just missed a sweep after losing a five-run lead in game three but now enter conference tournament play with a surge of momentum.

Mississippi State (34-20, 15-15 SEC) remained on the outside looking in after a sweep of Missouri.

All three clubs will hit the road to compete in their respective conference tournaments this week. Ole Miss and Southern Miss aim to solidify their resumes to be selected as one of the 16 regional host sites next week, while Mississippi State will look to shore up its seeding in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

MSU will be the No. 11 seed in the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Al., squaring off with 14-seed Texas A&M in round one on Tuesday at a schedule 8 p.m. CT. No. 7 seed Ole Miss awaits the winner of No. 10 Florida and No. 15 South Carolina on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Southern Miss will open Sun Belt tournament play Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in Montgomery, Al., taking on the higher-seeded winner of Tuesday’s No. 7 – No. 10 seed matchups.
