The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science will once again welcome reptile enthusiasts for a “World Snake Day” celebration.
Snake lovers are welcome to visit the Jackson museum on Friday, June 13, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for a special interactive display featuring some of the facility’s slithery friends.
Visitors will have the chance to see and touch live snakes, meet the Museum’s herpetologists and educators, learn how to distinguish venomous from non-venomous snakes, and explore how snakes benefit our environment. Guests can also participate in crafts and educational activities designed to entertain and inform people of all ages.
“Snakes might not be everyone’s favorite animal, but they are truly remarkable,” Assistant Museum Director Aaron Holbrook said. “World Snake Day is a great chance to explore the science and beauty of these fascinating reptiles in a safe, fun setting. We invite you to come learn something new – you might even surprise yourself!”
World Snake Day is also scout-friendly, meaning Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi can earn the “MDWFP Museum of Natural Science Snake Day” patch. Boy Scouts can complete multiple requirements for their “Reptile and Amphibian Merit” badge.
Event admission is included with Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Foundation Membership or with regular museum admission: $9 for adults, $8 for seniors (60+), $7 for youth (ages 3–18), and free for children under age 3. Tickets are available here or at the museum’s entrance.
