The Corinth community is mourning the loss of a teenager who died in a jet ski accident over Memorial Day weekend.
Jackson Thomas Marlar, 14, was transported to a Tennessee hospital after two jet skis collided near Goat Island in Iuka on Friday afternoon. He was a student at Corinth Middle School.

“It is with great sadness we share the passing of one of our students, Jackson Marlar,” the Corinth School District wrote in a social media post. “We are heartbroken by this loss, and we grieve with his family and friends. In times like these, we must continue to come together and support each other as the Corinth community.”
According to Marlar’s obituary, he played baseball and football at Corinth Middle School. In the classroom, he was an all-A student who won awards in the subjects of science, English, and history.
Marlar also served as a greeter and usher on Sunday mornings at First Methodist Church of Corinth, welcoming “each person with a genuine smile and firm handshake or warm hug.” He was a member of Boy Scouts of American Troop 27 where he had achieved the rank of Life Scout.
“He was such a great student and an even better kid,” Corinth Middle School Coach Maggie Vondenstein said as part of the obituary. “I don’t have the words to ease your pain but know that Jackson was one of the best. He made my job as a teacher a lot easier. So very honored to have had the opportunity to teach him. This one hurts.”
Beginning Tuesday, Corinth Middle School will have counselors available for those impacted by Marlar’s death.
