A Rankin County man has been arrested after allegedly holding a woman hostage for three weeks while abusing her.
The unidentified adult woman was reported missing on May 12 in Smith County. A joint investigation by the Smith County and Rankin County Sheriff’s Departments led to information that led law enforcement to believe the woman was at a home in Rankin County.
Officers responded to the residence on Holly Bush Road and found the missing woman, also discovering that she had sustained physical injuries. Based on her state, which included multiple broken bones in her face, contusions, and lacerations, investigators believe she sustained daily physical abuse while being held at the home.
An arrest warrant was issued for Quincy Terrell Gilbert following the discoveries. He was taken into custody later in Pelahatchie on Lake Road.
Further canvassing of the home led investigators to items such as a broomstick that appeared to be fashioned for the purpose of abusing the woman.
Gilbert was charged with aggravated assault and capital kidnapping. He is being held at the Rankin County Detention Center on a $600,000 bond.
