An undocumented immigrant hailing from Mexico pled guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court for illegally reentering the United States.
Court documents show 29-year-old Antonio Quintana-Rodriguez had previously been deported by immigration authorities in 2013. He then reentered the U.S. without documentation, eventually being discovered by authorities following his arrest for a statutory rape charge in Oxford.
In May, Quintana-Rodriguez pled guilty to the statutory rape charge.
“Those who illegally enter this country and prey on children must be held accountable for their violation of our laws,” U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner said. “We commend the work by the Oxford Police Department in their investigation of a sex offense against a child and we commend their working with the Department of Homeland Security to ensure that this defendant will answer for every violation of law he has committed.”
The Department of Homeland Security and the Oxford Police Department partnered to investigate the case, which was part of the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative dubbed Operation Take Back America.
