There’s a new head baseball coach at Gulfport High School, someone who’s already familiar with the program.
Myles Gentry was announced as Gulfport’s head baseball coach on Monday, Gentry played for the Admirals before taking the field at Mississippi State from 2013-16. He then hung up the cleats for a clipboard at Jones College, where he served as an assistant coach from 2017-19 and from 2021-23.
Gentry was the pitching coach at DeSoto Central High School in Southaven between his two stints in Ellisville. He most recently served as the director of player development and operations at Samford, a position he had held since August 2023.
During his prep years at Gulfport, Gentry was an All-State player. At Mississippi State, he pitched in 23 games, compiling a 4-1 record with 30 strikeouts and a 3.69 earned run average. He was a member of the 2013 team that finished runner-up in the College World Series.
Gentry earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology while in Starkville before attaining his master’s degree in kinesiology at Arkansas State. He takes over for Jamie McMahon, who coached the Admirals for 13 seasons before retiring.
As part of the announcement, the Gulfport Athletic Department named Neil Frederic to lead the middle school baseball program. Frederic previously coached at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, followed by stops in multiple school districts.
