After nearly four months of providing relief to survivors of the March 14-15 storms that killed seven Mississippians, injured nearly 30 more, and dealt millions in damage, the final disaster recovery center is closing its doors.
According to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), the disaster recovery center in Grenada County, the last center open to the public, will close at noon on Saturday, July 12.
A mobile disaster recovery center will still be available to those in need.
FEMA has distributed more than $20 million in individual assistance to nearly 9,000 residents, while doling out over $11.5 million in housing assistance.

Though the disaster recovery centers will be closed, officials are still urging those in need to apply for assistance online or by calling the FEMA Helpline at (800) 621-3362. The disaster number is: DR-4874.
Individual Assistance is available in Covington, Grenada, Issaquena, Itawamba, Jefferson Davis, Leflore, Marion, Montgomery, Pike, Smith, and Walthall counties. The program is available to residents and business owners and can include grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses.
Public Assistance is available in Calhoun, Carroll, Covington, Grenada, Humphreys, Issaquena, Itawamba, Jefferson Davis, Lee, Leflore, Marion, Montgomery, Pike, Prentiss, Sharkey, Smith, Walthall, and Washington counties. The purpose of the program is to support municipalities and counties with grant assistance for debris removal, life-saving emergency protective measures, and restoration of public infrastructure. It does not include assistance for homeowners or business owners.
