An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in Tupelo left one person dead.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, which is heading the case, announced that the incident happened Saturday afternoon near McCullough Boulevard and Interstate 22.
Officers with the Verona Police Department responded to call to help a neighboring law enforcement agency in pursuit of a vehicle believed to have a hostage inside. The suspect’s vehicle wrecked before the driver got out and allegedly brandished a weapon.
Verona officers are then said to have fired their guns at the suspect, who was identified Sunday as Juwan Harris. The 31-year-old from Nettleton succumbed to his injuries at North Mississippi Medical Center shortly after the shooting, according to WTVA.
No other details have been announced at this time.
