Officials gathered in downtown Jackson on Friday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch a new driver service bureau.
Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell was joined by Jackson Mayor John Horhn, state Sen. David Blount, and state Rep. Zakiya Summers in opening the new facility, located at 430 State Street. The new site replaces the one that had long been housed on East Woodrow Wilson Avenue.
Driver service bureaus in Mississippi exist to serve folks obtaining or renewing driver’s licenses and identification cards, applying for learner’s permits, and requesting duplicate licenses or vehicle records. They also handle firearm permits. Officials encourage the public to skip the line and schedule appointments online.
Earlier this year, a major system update caused all driver service bureaus in Mississippi to face closures and delays. The Department of Public Safety, which oversees operations within these facilities, is ensuring more efficiency and shorter wait times at the new downtown Jackson site.
