Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced Monday that the 2025 application period for the Mississippi Opioid Settlement Fund is officially open.
Organizations working to combat the opioid crisis and support recovery efforts are encouraged to apply for funding by Sept. 19.
“The opioid epidemic has claimed far too many lives in Mississippi,” Fitch said. “Working together, we can confront the damage already done and work to prevent more senseless harm.”
The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office was one of the first in the nation to sue opioid manufacturers for their role in the epidemic. Since then, Fitch has secured settlement agreements with more than a dozen manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, retail pharmacies, and marketers. Proceeds from these settlements are deposited into the Opioid Settlement Fund, established by the Legislature in 2024.
Earlier this year, lawmakers created the Opioid Settlement Fund Advisory Council to ensure the money is spent according to the terms of the settlement agreements. The council oversees funding allocations, prioritizing accountability, transparency, and public involvement. Fitch serves as chair of the council.
