Update: Police did not identify the driver or victim by name, but they did report that the driver is a 16-year-old male and that the victim is a 12-year-old female.
A Madison-Ridgeland Academy student was injured Tuesday afternoon after getting hit by a car near the school.
The Madison Police Department confirmed it was working the scene of an accident in the area of Old Canton Road and St. Augustine Drive around 4:30 p.m. The crash forced officers to temporarily close a portion of Old Canton Road near the Calumet neighborhood.
An email sent out by Madison-Ridgeland Academy administration asked for thoughts and prayers, informing that the female student was crossing Old Canton Road on foot to get to Strawberry Patch Park when struck by the vehicle.
She was conscious on the scene before emergency personnel transferred her to a local hospital.
MPD said in a press release shortly after 7 p.m. that she is in “serious but stable condition.” The department added that the driver was also a juvenile but uninjured in the incident.
