As calendars continue to be marked in anticipation of college football’s return, Mississippi State is generating additional enthusiasm from its fan base with the announcement of two uniforms that will be worn this coming season.
Bulldog faithful have flooded social media endorsing the idea of replacing the “State” script logo that the program has embraced in recent years with an interlocking “MSU” logo that the program had frequently donned in the past.
Well, it appears that athletics director Zac Selmon heard the cries of his customers because, on Thursday, Mississippi State announced that the football team will wear its all-white 2025 core uniform paired with a white helmet featuring the interlocking “MSU” logo and maroon face-mask during the Sept. 27 SEC home opener against Tennessee. Fans are also encouraged to wear white to the game.
The look pays tribute to the 2000 team that claimed a 43-41 overtime victory over Texas A&M in the Independence Bowl – a game forever remembered for the rare snowstorm in Shreveport, La, on Dec. 31, 2000. Coach Jackie Sherrill and members of that team will be invited back to Starkville and recognized during the game, per a release from the university.
“We’re going to listen to our fans,” Selmon said on SportsTalk Mississippi. “We had an outside group that started two focus groups for us with fans that started in May, and we got some meaningful dialogue and ideas, not just on the marks and the logos, but a lot of other things that we can do from a fan experience side … We’re going to constantly look at ways we can meet the needs [of fans].”

Selmon and company did not stop with the “whiteout” uniform. On Friday, the Mississippi State athletics department announced that it is adding a new uniform concept, dubbed “dark mode,” to this year’s rotation. For the first time since 2020, the Bulldogs will wear an all-black helmet, jersey, and pants set. The attire will be displayed during a “select home game,” per university officials. Fans can purchase replicas of these jerseys here.

Mississippi State will return to the gridiron on Aug. 30 in a road matchup at Southern Miss. Coming off a two-win 2024 campaign, Jeff Lebby and company will look to improve the win-loss column, but those efforts will be challenged by the Bulldogs’ tumultuous schedule. The team is currently slated to face seven teams ranked in the AP top 25, and four programs that appeared in the most recent College Football Playoff.
