Storms traveling through the Mississippi Delta will now be captured on a new camera in Clarksdale.
North Mississippi Storm Chasers announced Friday the installation of a “skycam” a few miles from the Delta Blues Museum. The camera will provide 24-hour live video streams, allowing agencies such as the National Weather Service and local media to view systems in real time and issue warnings as needed.
“While this camera feed is primarily intended for the National Weather Service, local media, and EMS, it will also be free and available for the public to view,” a release from North Mississippi Storm Chasers reads.
The public viewing link for the Clarksdale skycam can be accessed here.
North Mississippi Storm Chasers was founded by Brett Wicker in 2003 and now includes over 25 cameras across the state with a team of over 30 members tracking and maintaining the cameras, along with running the nonprofit’s social media channels that have over 130,000 followers.
Cameras have already caught numerous tornadoes, fires, and dust storms across the state. Locations include Aberdeen, Cleveland, Dundee, Kosciusko, Oxford, Rolling Fork, and Shelby, among other municipalities.
