Bad news for ice cream lovers in Mississippi — Blue Bell is recalling batches of one of its flavors due to a packaging mishap.
The company on Friday voluntarily recalled a limited quantity of its Moo-llenium Crunch flavor. An unspecified number of the flavor’s half-gallon cartons were mistakenly labeled in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough containers with Moo-llenium Crunch lids. The mistake occurred at the company’s Brenham, Texas, plant.
Because Moo-llenium Crunch features almonds, walnuts, and pecans, Blue Bell officials are warning customers with nut allergies could be at risk of a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume the product.
“A Blue Bell employee discovered the incorrect packaging on two half-gallons while restocking a retailer. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported to date. No other incorrect packaging has been discovered or reported to date,” a statement from the company reads.
“The half gallons can be identified as Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream packaged in a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough half gallon carton with a Moo-llennium Crunch lid and with the following code located on the top of the half gallon lid: 061027524.”

According to the popular ice cream company, retail outlets in Mississippi, along with Alabama, Arkansas, Florida Panhandle, Northwest Georgia, Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Southwest Virginia, were affected by the botched labeling.
Consumers who have purchased the product are encouraged to return the ice cream container to the place of purchase for a full refund. Blue Bell notified the Food and Drug Administration of the recall before making the announcement.
