ESPN has provided more details about an E60 episode centered on Lane Kiffin’s complicated coaching journey.
“From infamous firings to social media trolling, Lane Kiffin is one of the most polarizing and fascinating figures in sports,” a release from ESPN reads. “In a new episode, ESPN E60 explores Kiffin’s life and career as the Ole Miss head football coach grapples with his legacy and reflects on the coach, father, and person he wants to be.”
The episode, titled “The Many Lives of Lane Kiffin,” will feature a sit-down with ESPN senior writer and college football historian Ryan McGee and the Ole Miss frontman. The show will debut Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. CT — three days before the Rebels take on bitter rival LSU — on ESPN. An extended version will be available on the ESPN app after the debut.
When the 2025 season kicked off, Kiffin entered his sixth campaign at Ole Miss, marking the longest time he’s been a coach anywhere in his 30-year career. Though he’s outwardly spoken about how he’s changed as a person and how Oxford has made him a better man, Kiffin had previously garnered a reputation for his abrupt departures from occupations and his quirky social media personality.
Kiffin, whose football coaching legend father, Monte, helped him earn a position on Pete Carroll’s staff at USC, went on to become one of the more controversial figures of his profession. From short stints with the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC Trojans, drama seemed to follow Kiffin every step of the way.

“Kiffin’s head coaching journey began at the age of 31 when he was hired to lead the NFL’s Oakland Raiders. This would start a series of coaching exits that would form a public reputation for chaos and controversy,” the release further reads. “From a famous post-firing press conference by the late Raiders owner Al Davis to a legendary early morning firing at LAX airport with USC, the biggest moments in Kiffin’s career often had a flair for the dramatic.”
Now, after appearing to have settled down alongside his family in Mississippi, Kiffin is opening up about his journey. In the E60 episode, he discusses his path to sobriety, his commitment to self-improvement through practices like hot yoga, and his renewed focus on family.
Viewers will hear from members of Kiffin’s family, including his daughter, Landry, and his son, Knox, along with archival sound from the coach’s late father. Others featured in the episode will be Pete Carroll, decorated former Alabama coach Nick Saban, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, renowned sports journalist Chris Low, and popular sports radio and television host Paul Finebaum, among others.
In the meantime, Kiffin and his Rebels are gearing up for a conference matchup against Arkansas. Ole Miss will host the Razorbacks at home on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. ESPN and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations are airing the game.
