Contributions from a locally founded bank will allow children from the state’s lower six counties to visit Mississippi Aquarium for free.
The Hancock Whitney “Ocean of Opportunity” event will allow youth ages 12 and below who reside in Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River, Stone, and George counties to visit the popular Gulfport aquarium at no cost during select weekends. Tickets will be distributed through all schools in each county, and homeschooled children can receive free admission by showing proof of residency, per a release from the aquarium.
Hancock Whitney customers will also receive 25% off general admission tickets at the gate on promotional dates. Officials estimate that roughly 60,000 children will be able to enjoy the aquarium through the promotion.
In addition to exploring Mississippi Aquarium’s habitats and exhibits, children can enjoy special activities and animal encounters, along with other offerings.

“Mississippi Aquarium exists to inspire guests to explore the wonders of the aquatic world, but we also want to give our children the tools to succeed beyond our walls,” Mississippi Aquarium President and CEO Kurt Allen said. “With the support of Hancock Whitney, we’re providing opportunities that combine discovery, conservation, and life skills in a way that’s fun, memorable, and meaningful.”
The Hancock Whitney “Ocean of Opportunity” program begins Sept. 21-22 for children in Hancock and Pearl River counties. The program will continue with additional free admission weekends in October for youth in Harrison and Stone counties, then in November for Jackson and George counties.
