A Mississippi Delta Community College football player has passed away.
Officials with the school announced early Friday morning that freshman offensive lineman Emanuell Cooks, an Elba, Ala. native, died from unspecified complications following Thursday night’s game at Hinds Community College.
“Our entire Trojan family is devastated by this loss,” MDCC President Dr. Steven Jones said. “At this time, our deepest thoughts and prayers are with Emanuell’s family, teammates, coaches, and friends. We will come together as a community to support one another through this tragedy.”
While details remain slim, counseling and support services are being offered at the Vandiver Student Union for those grieving Cooks’ loss.
“These services are available to all MDCC students, faculty, and staff and are offered through the MDCC Office of Counseling, Career, and Disability Support Services in partnership with Life Help,” a statement from the community college reads. “We encourage anyone in need of support to take advantage of these resources.”
