The George County School District will ramp up its campus security efforts following a potential threat of violence that officials were alerted to earlier in the week.
District officials reported they were notified about the unspecified threat, which was not directed toward any particular campus or individual, on Monday. A multi-agency investigation determined that the threat was not credible and that students and staff were not in imminent danger.
“Interruption of student activities was limited to the extent necessary to allow for a thorough investigation of the potential threat,” a statement from district superintendent Debra Joiner reads. “Although the threat was not found to be credible, we have increased the presence of law enforcement in our district.”

Joiner further noted that she appreciated the rapid response from law enforcement to investigate the threat, noting that their efforts play a crucial role in keeping students safe from harm.
