The celebration is continuing in Oxford after Ole Miss ousted bitter rival LSU in a gritty home matchup on Saturday, and to add to the festivities, quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been named the Associated Press Player of the Week.
Chambliss, a transfer from Division II Ferris State, earned the national honor, along with the SEC co-offensive player of the week award, after aiding in his team’s 24-19 win over the Tigers. In his third start for the now-No. 4 Rebels, Chambliss completed 22 of 39 passes for 314 yards, a touchdown, and a pick, and was sacked zero times. Eight of his completions were for 15 or more yards. He also used his feet effectively in the matchup, logging 71 yards on 14 carries.
“It’s an amazing accomplishment. I have to thank God for that one. He’s been with me the whole time,” Chambliss said of the win. “I have to thank Coach Kiffin and the whole staff here at Ole Miss for giving me the opportunity to come here and showcase my skillset and showcase what I can do with great athletes in this amazing support staff.”

Chambliss has quickly elevated to fan-favorite status among Rebel faithful after taking over for an injured Austin Simmons. Ole Miss fans, en masse, have flooded social media with Trinidad and Tobago flags in posts, profiles, and memes. The Caribbean country’s flag, humorously used to show support for the Rebel field general, was also flying on the Oxford Square and throughout the Grove ahead of the LSU game.
“It’s funny. I love it — all the flags, the tailgates. It’s really cool,” Chambliss said of the Trinidad and Tobago flags. “My family loves it too.”
The backup-turned-starter was not the only Rebel recognized for his performance against the former top-five Tigers. Ole Miss right guard Patrick Kutas earned the SEC’s co-offensive lineman of the week, while Australian punter Oscar Bird was lauded as the conference’s freshman of the week.
Ole Miss will get the week off before returning to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 11, for a home battle against nonconference Washington State.
